One of the things that troubled me when I started this blog is that I don’t see too many movies at all these days, and trips to the cinema are few and far between. So, I promised myself I would write something here each time I see a movie for the first time, whether I rent it, buy it, or just catch it on cable. I am also permitted to write about movies I may have seen a long time ago… from memory, as it were. I think it’s okay to write a review from memory, perhaps long after the film was first released. It helps me feel better about how little I “go” to the movies, for one thing. For another, I think the timing matters a lot less now that we have so many ways to get and see movies when and where we want. Somebody, somewhere, is watching Casablanca for the very first time right now. I believe there is ample opportunity, far into the future, to reach people before they’ve seen a given film. Waiting may have other benefits, too. There is also the possibility that the original experience of seeing a movie may gestate into something else, with time. And a better review may be the ultimate result.
